The City of Tampa is closely monitoring the red tide situation and in constant contact with our state, local, and regional partners. Tampa employees have removed tons of dead fish and other biomass from our shores, but to date the city has not been impacted nearly to the degree as our neighbors in Pinellas County and elsewhere. That could change quickly, however, if the wind shifts and pushes more dead fish into Tampa Bay. We are working closely with other government agencies and experts to prepare and to help protect Tampa Bay.
- The Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management is prepared to assist in the disposal of dead fish resulting from red tide.
- Residents collecting small amounts of fish, are encouraged to double-bag the fish and place in their curbside blue garbage cart for collection.
- The Department is prepared to expand operations to accommodate mass quantities, if the need arises.
