Taking a stand against gun violence, a local non-profit, Rise Up For Peace, is hosting a “community healing and gun violence interruption” event on Saturday, July 8, at Ragan Park in Tampa. The event, scheduled from noon to 4 pm, will include kid-friendly activities, food, music, and a community bench dedication in honor of local victims of gun violence and their families. Representatives from the Tampa Police Department, the City of Tampa, including Mayor Jane Castor, and Safe & Sound Hillsborough will be in attendance.

In addition, to encourage local youth to focus on positive outlets in life, a back-to-school drive collecting supplies for children in need will be held at the event. Attendees are asked to bring backpacks and school supplies to donate.

The mission of Rise Up For Peace is to provide emotional support and resources to families who have lost loved ones to senseless violence. Uniting as "One Voice, One Sound" against violence with poise, strength, dignity, and collective thoughts by joining forces with public officials, law enforcement, and like-minded organizations who have the heart for the hurting, helpless and hopeless individuals who are seeking closure and committed to the sole purpose of ushering peace, love, and unity back into our communities.
