The Tampa Bay Area Chapter of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College (NAASC) is pleased to announce our 2nd Annual Spelman: A Legacy in Blue Scholarship Gala, which will take place Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Hotel Riverwalk. This is an amazing event to raise funds for our scholarship program which benefits young ladies from the Tampa Bay Area who are attending our beloved alma mater Spelman College, in addition to recognizing trailblazers in EDUCATION. Our inspiration is our Spelman Sister and trailblazer, Blanche Armwood, a Tampa native, who graduated from Spelman Seminary in 1906 with a teaching certificate. Ms. Armwood returned to Tampa to teach in the Hillsborough County School System and was named Supervisor of Negro Schools from 1922-1930. In 1938 Blanche Armwood was the first African American woman from the state of Florida to earn her law degree, when she graduated from Howard University Law School!
This year we shall honor the following educators:
Doretha Edgecomb -- Blanche Armwood Legacy Award
Autumn Lee-Jeffries -- True Blue Leadership Award
Lanita Lucas -- Rising Star Community Service Award
Join us on Saturday, October 14 for an amazing evening of fundraising, live entertainment and community awards!
