Hyde Park Historic District Expansion

Effective January 5, 2023, the Hyde Park Historic District has been expanded to the north to include an additional 184 buildings in the Hyde Park Spanishtown Creek Civic Association and the Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, Inc. neighborhoods. The Architectural Review Commission (ARC) ensures that development within this local historic district adheres to established Design Guidelines and The Secretary of Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation.

On May 4, 2021, the Hyde Park Spanishtown Creek Civic Association and the Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, Inc., made application to the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) for the expansion of the locally designated Hyde Park Local Historic District boundaries. In accordance with City of Tampa Code of Ordinances Section 27-256, the HPC held a public hearing to consider this request on August 30, 2022, at 5:30 PM This public hearing was noticed in accordance with the requirements of Section 27-149. After receiving testimony and public comment, the HPC considered the evidence and made a recommendation to Tampa City Council to approve the request.

The boundary expansion report was reviewed by the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission staff, which found the request to be consistent with the adopted City of Tampa Comprehensive Plan. Pursuant to Section 27-262, City Council held a public hearing on December 8, 2022 to consider the proposed expansion of the Hyde Park Local Historic District. The expansion was approved by City Council at the second reading of the adopting ordinance at its public hearing on January 5, 2023 and went into effect thereafter.
