Neighborhood walking tours will take place in the East Tampa Community Redevelopment area on January 30, February 13, 20 and 27 as part of a Strategic Action Plan project for the East Tampa community.

The first tour will take place on Saturday, January 30 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon and will highlight the neighborhoods of College Hill-Belmont Heights and Jackson Heights.

  •  For College Hill-Belmont Heights, meet at 10 a.m. at the Tampa Police Department / Community Redevelopment Agency office at 3808 N. 22nd Street
  •  For Jackson Heights, meet at 10 a.m. at the NFL YET Center at 3310 E. Lake Avenue.

The Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Tampa engaged GAI Consultants to work with the community to update the 2009 Strategic Action Plan for the East Tampa CRA.   The planning team is conducting these tours to learn first-hand from residents and business owners about the needs and vision for their neighborhoods.  “Neighborhoods and citizens are at the heart of the East Tampa community and I encourage them to engage in this strategic planning process.” Tampa City Councilman and CRA Chair Orlando Gudes.

Members of the East Tampa Community Advisory Committee and Neighborhood Associations will be participating on these tours. “As Chair of Community Advisory Committee, we are committed on working toward the elimination of blight and improving economic conditions for residents of East Tampa. Your voice, vision and participation will only sharpen the development of the East Tampa Strategic Plan as we move forward. The future depends on you.”  East Tampa CAC Chair Connie Burton.

Safety vests, face masks and a water bottle will be provided to participants and COVID-19 CDC guidelines for social distancing will be followed.

What is a Walking Tour?

A walking tour is approximately a 1.5 mile route in a neighborhood.  It is conducted at a slow pace to encourage participants to discuss neighborhood conditions and needs in a conversational manner.

In addition to the walking tours, neighborhood residents, business owners and community stakeholders are encouraged to Take the Survey and Sign Up for News on the website.  Surveys are also available at the East Tampa CRA office located in the TPD District 3 building at 3808 N. 22nd Street.
