A portion of W Platt Street/Channelside Drive between Bayshore Boulevard and S Florida Avenue and S Florida Avenue between Channelside Drive and Water Street (formerly Old Water Street) will close daily beginning on Monday, March 9, 2020, for utility construction. A utility contractor will install a gas main and service for the new JW Marriott hotel at the corner of Water Street and S Florida Avenue.
One (1) eastbound lane on W Platt Street between Bayshore Boulevard and N Ashley Drive, two (2) eastbound lanes on Channelside Drive between N Ashley Drive and S Florida Avenue and one (1) southbound lane on S Florida Avenue between Channelside Drive and Water Street will close at 9 am beginning on March 9, 2020.
Three (3) eastbound lanes on W Platt Street between Bayshore Boulevard and N Ashley Drive, two (2) eastbound lanes on Channelside Drive between N Ashley Drive and S Florida Avenue and one (1) southbound lane on S Florida Avenue between Channelside Drive and Water Street will be maintained during construction, with delays.
The sidewalk on both sides of S Florida Avenue between Channelside Drive and the mid-block crosswalk (Thunder Alley) will remain open during construction.
All lanes on W Platt Street/Channelside Drive and both southbound lanes on S Florida Avenue between Channelside Drive and Water Street will reopen to traffic by 4 pm on Friday, March 13, 2020, weather permitting.
The City of Tampa recommends that motorists use alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion.
