Temporary Road Closure Water Street to begin July 15th 2021 for Road Construction

A portion of Water Street (formerly Old Water Street) between S Florida Avenue and Channelside Drive and Channelside Drive and Channelside Drive between S Meridian Avenue/S Beneficial Drive and Water Street closed on Thursday, July 15, 2021, for road construction.  A City contractor is installing a sewer force main on Water Street at the intersection of S Morgan Street.   

The construction work also includes installation of a center median and parallel parking spaces on the south side of Water Street between S Morgan Street and the Tampa History Center driveway.  The construction work will be completed in two (2) phases.

During Phase 1, Water Street between JW Marriott Hotel driveway and the Tampa History Center driveway and the westbound lanes of Channelside Drive between S Meridian Avenue/S Beneficial Drive and Water Street closed at 9 am on July 15, 2021. 

The sidewalks in the area will be closed during construction.  Pedestrians will be detoured to other available sidewalks in the area via signage.

Phase 1 construction on Water Street is scheduled to be completed by 4 pm on Friday, August 13, 2021, weather permitting. Phase 2 will begin immediately after the completion of Phase 1. During Phase 2, Water Street west of S Morgan Street and the intersection of Water Street and S Morgan Street will reopen to traffic. 

During Phase 2 construction, Water Street between S Morgan Street and the Tampa History Center driveway and the westbound lanes of Channelside Drive between S Meridian Avenue/S Beneficial Drive and Water Street will remain closed until 4 pm on Monday, October 11, 2021, weather permitting.

The City recommends using alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
