Tampa Streetcar Goes Fare FREE with Extended Service to/from the Tampa Convention Center

This information is 3 years 7 months old and may no longer be accurate.

Great news convention-goers! Starting THIS Sunday, October 7th, the historic Tampa Streetcar will be fare FREE. With a stop just outside our building at Dick Greco Plaza, the Tampa Streetcar is an excellent way for visitors and locals alike to commute between Tampa’s Downtown, Ybor City, and the Channel District.

Earlier this year, Hillsborough Area Regional Transit earned a $2.67 million grant from the Florida Department of Transportation to extend the streetcars service and make it free for all riders. Starting this Sunday, the streetcar will run every 15 minutes for the next three years with extended service until 2am Friday-Saturday, and until 11pm Sunday-Thursday.

See the free fares and expanded hours flyer here.

With free fares and extended service, the Tampa Streetcar will make it easier than ever for convention-goers to explore Tampa. This is mutually beneficial for visitors and Tampanians alike--offering a convenient way for convention attendees to discover some of Tampa's best hotspots while stimulating the local economy with convention tourism.

As usual, the Tampa Streetcar will also be free this Saturday—offering an excellent transportation option for Tampa Bay Lightning fans heading to The Sail for drinks before/after the home opener at Amalie Area.

About the Tampa Streetcar

First adopted in 1892, the TECO Line Streetcar system is special to our city’s history. In its early years, the streetcar was used as an everyday transit solution for Tampanians heading to work in the West Tampa cigar factories and downtown.

Today, the Tampa Streetcar is not only a fun and unique way to get around town, but it’s also convenient. The Dick Greco Plaza stop, located just across from the Tampa Convention Center, allows visitors to easily hop on/off at various spots around the city to sightsee, grab a bite to eat, or head back to their hotels.
