Storytelling Through Photography Remote Learning

These Zoom sessions will fully reflect the same content as with the on-ground workshops offered by the FMoPA institute.

We all have a story to tell, a legacy or statement, a call to action, a declaration of what you believe, what makes you mad or happy, your unique observations of the world around you, your life itself with its peaks and valleys. The medium of photography makes it possible to tell your story and sometimes make a change. A picture tells a thousand words. Several pictures correctly sequenced tell a full story – your individual story.

In this workshop, you will learn the art of telling a story through creating a visual narrative. Multiple images have the power of expressing thoughts, ideas, experiences and beliefs in a linear format. Storyboarding and careful sequencing of photographs following a clear concept, your unique voice and communications to the outside world, using many case studies and background information on the starting point of any project: The Why, What, Who, and How.

We all have a unique story to share with others, it can be a powerful and quiet voice, but we have a responsibility to tell our stories as part of our background, culture, legacy and circumstances. The power of words through titles or series’ names are also explored, rounding up to a full story.

In this hands-on photo safari, professional photographer Amy Pezzicara will help you explore the photographic techniques to capture the essence of a place. Bring your camera and get to know our location from every angle. We will work through shooting challenges and on-the-spot critiques to expand upon your thought processes.

This class is appropriate for all levels of photography, ages 13 and up. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and get instant feedback as you work with shutter speed, depth of field and ISO. Please bring a camera that you know how to use and adjust settings. A phone is acceptable if you use an app that allows you to manually control the camera (such VSCO). Make magic with us!

Make Magic with Us!

It’s that time of year again - time to FRINGE! The Tampa Fringe will be held July 29th - August 8th at the HCC Ybor Performing Arts Building. We are transforming the YPAB into a Magical Forest Grotto for all to enjoy. Inspired by classic fantasy art from the 20th century, with Babayaga’s Refreshment Hut, the Temple to the Chicken, and more. This is a dry venue, but our website includes a map to all of the closest bars and their walk times for those who would like to enjoy an adult beverage before or after performances. Entry to the building requires a button - free with first show ticket purchased, or is pay-what-you-can. Show tickets range $5-$16.

This year will feature 14 companies performing over 70 shows over the course of the festival, including:
