Hillsborough Property Appraiser Bob Henriquez and Commissioner Gwen Myers Lead Outreach Effort to Help Homeowners Navigate Exemptions and Property Assessments
TAMPA, FL — Hillsborough County Property Appraiser Bob Henriquez, in collaboration with County Commissioner Gwen Myers, will host a community outreach event focused on property tax exemptions and value review assistance for homeowners.
The event will take place on Tuesday, June 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Greater Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1207 N. Jefferson Street in Downtown Tampa.
This initiative is part of Mr. Henriquez’s ongoing commitment to equitable service delivery by his office and Commissioner Myers’ advocacy for increased access to resources within historically underserved neighborhoods. The event is free and open to the public.
Purpose of the Event
The outreach event will provide residents with:
- Detailed information on available property tax exemptions, including Homestead, Senior, Disability, Veteran, and First Responder.
- Guidance on the property value review process, including how to request a reassessment and understand assessment notices.
- One-on-one consultations with staff from the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser’s Office to assist with exemption applications and valuation concerns.
Remarks from Leadership
Property Appraiser Bob Henriquez stated, “Our goal is to ensure that every homeowner understands their rights and options when it comes to exemptions and property values. Events like this allow us to meet residents where they are and offer personalized support in navigating these important matters.”
Commissioner Gwen Myers added, “I strongly encourage homeowners to attend this event to ensure they are receiving all the property tax exemptions for which they may qualify and to get answers to any questions about their assessments. Additionally, if your home sustained unresolved damage from Hurricanes Milton or Helene, it’s important to report that to the Property Appraiser’s office. In some cases, verified storm damage can result in a reduction in your property’s assessed value—which may lower your property taxes for 2025.”
Who Should Attend
This event is intended for homeowners in the City of Tampa or Unincorporated Hillsborough County who:
- May be eligible for exemptions but have not yet applied
- Have questions about their property’s assessed value
- Would like assistance in reviewing their property valuation
Attendees are encouraged to bring relevant documentation, including recent property appraisal notices, proof of residency, and any supporting materials related to exemption eligibility.
