Tampa Police Department Internship Program
The Tampa Police Department offers internships for college students who are pursuing a degree and are interested in careers in public safety. Interns gain hands-on experience by working alongside sworn officers and civilian staff while learning about different areas of the department. Successfully completing the program provides valuable knowledge and experience for a future career in criminal justice.
Internship Sessions
Spring: January–May
Summer: May–August
Fall: August–December
Eligibility Requirements
Be at least 18 years old.
Be a U.S. citizen or an approved foreign exchange student.
Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program for academic credit.
Demonstrate good moral character.
Complete a criminal background check, including fingerprinting.
Have no felony convictions.
Have any prior arrest records sealed or expunged.
Meet the department's standards regarding past illegal drug use, which is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Successfully pass a background investigation.
Complete a drug screening.
Undergo a polygraph examination if required by the department.

Step 1: Submit Your Application
Complete the initial online college intern application in the link below.
Application Deadlines
Applications must be submitted during the following enrollment periods:
Spring Session: September 1st – October 1st
Summer Session: January 1st – February 1st
Fall Session: May 1st – June 1st
Step 2: Complete the Background Process
After your application is reviewed and you are selected, you will receive an additional "Vetted" background application, via email. This application must be fully completed within 14 business days of receiving it.
You must also submit:
Recommendation Letter: This letter must be on official college or university letterhead from an academic counselor, department head, or professor. The letter must confirm that you are enrolled as a degree-seeking student and state the number of internship hours requested.
Once all required documents have been received, you will be contacted to schedule an interview.
