Purpose:

The Palmetto Beach Coastal Area Action Plan, funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD): Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), provides neighborhood-specific recommendations and actions to help mitigate the effects of storms and flooding. Neighborhood resilience enables a community’s ability to withstand, adapt to, and recover from adverse events, such as natural disasters, economic challenges, and social disruptions. Allowing for a holistic approach through community organizations and local government helps play key roles in emergency preparedness, infrastructure improvements, and policies promoting economic stability and sustainable growth.

Key Findings:

The Palmetto Beach Coastal Area Action Plan offers recommendations and action items derived from an evaluation of the Tampa Comprehensive Plan and development regulations, as well as social and environmental vulnerability assessments. Additionally, it considers evacuation clearance times and shelter space, and incorporates community outreach. This plan presents a shared vision and actionable steps to enhance the quality of life, mitigate the impact of natural disasters, and ensure sustainable growth and development. This plan serves to guide decision-making at all levels for city leaders, city and planning commission staff, stakeholders, and residents.
