The Photograph follows a journalist, Michael (LaKeith Stanfield) who finds himself drawn into the life of the daughter, Mae (Issa Rae), of a famous photographer and the dramatic circumstances around her life and Mae’s parentage. It’s a beautiful and sensitive treatment of a complicated story, not afraid to take on subtlety and unwilling to give in to sappy cliché or trite contrivance. Being released at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, it also never got the acclaim it deserves, so we’re proud to bring it back to you for another chance to get its flowers.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early for a live podcast recording of “Screen it or Stream it” with Cahlen Fogg and Genoa Gibson, and to network with local community organizations in the lobby. Cahlen and Gen will be chatting with Octavio Jones about his work as a photojournalist and his life behind the lens.
The Black Love Classic Movie Series is presented by Tampa Electric (TECO) in collaboration with the City of Tampa’s Community Engagement & Partnerships Department.
