Tyson Ave & Manhattan Ave Improvements (West Shore Blvd and Manhattan Ave)

Primary Details

Description

This project provides for operational, capacity, safety, and multimodal improvements by constructing a roadway and multi-use trail on unimproved Tyson Ave. right-of-way and widening Manhattan Ave.

The portion of the Interbay peninsula south of Gandy Blvd has experienced a renaissance of infill and redevelopment that has caused citizen concern relative to traffic congestion.  Due to these concerns, the City of Tampa prepared a transportation planning study (2010) to assess transportation needs associated with these new developments.   Two of the corridors identified in the Study as future critical needs to improve traffic circulation in the area were along Tyson Ave and Manhattan Ave.  Several concepts along the Tyson Ave corridor are being evaluated including a new two-lane roadway in the unimproved City owned right-of-way between West Shore Blvd and Manhattan Ave. The recommended improvements along the Manhattan Ave corridor propose to widen the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided roadway from Tyson Ave to Gandy Blvd.  The City will conduct public involvement and community outreach to share with, and solicit input from, the residents of the surrounding neighborhoods as well as other stakeholders during the project development.
