On July 15, 2022 at 11:55 p.m., the victims were attempting to park at the intersection of 19th Street and 8th Avenue. During this time, the defendant, Orson Reuben Charles (D.O.B. 01/27/1991), was also trying to enter the same parking space from a different direction. Charles exited his vehicle and approached the driver side of the victim's vehicle to engage in a confrontation over the parking spot.
Charles brandished a gun and threatened to shoot the victims. The victims immediately displayed their law enforcement credentials, which did not stop the Charles's actions.
The victims reported the incident to an off-duty HCSO deputy and maintained a visual on Charles until he was taken into custody. Search incident to arrest, the defendant was armed, his CCF permit was expired, and he was in possession of a misdemeanor amount of marijuana. The investigation is ongoing.
