Tampa hosts cultural, educational and family-friendly events all year long. Here are some of the city's signature annual celebrations. Dates change each year, so check the event website before you go.
January
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade: Held each year on the national holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this free, family-friendly parade travels through East Tampa with floats, marching bands and community groups.
- Gasparilla Pirate Fest: A Tampa tradition since 1904, Gasparilla celebrates the legendary pirate Jose Gaspar. The season opens with the family-friendly Children's Gasparilla. A week later, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla sails into downtown to capture the city, followed by the Parade of Pirates along Bayshore Boulevard. It is one of the largest outdoor celebrations in the country.
February
- Florida State Fair: The 12-day fair showcases Florida agriculture with livestock shows and exhibits, plus rides, fair food and live entertainment at the Florida State Fairgrounds.
- Sant'Yago Knight Parade: Lighted floats, marching bands and pirates fill Seventh Avenue in Ybor City for this nighttime parade.
- Fiesta Day: This free street festival on Seventh Avenue honors the Cuban, Spanish, Italian, German, Jewish and Afro-Cuban immigrants who settled in Ybor City in the late 1800s. Enjoy food, arts and crafts, and live music.
- Gasparilla Distance Classic: Runners and walkers of all levels take to Bayshore Boulevard for a race weekend that includes a half marathon, 15K, 8K and 5K. Proceeds benefit Tampa Bay youth organizations.
March
- Gasparilla Festival of the Arts: More than 200 painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelers and other artists from across the country exhibit at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park. This juried show is one of the top outdoor fine art festivals in the nation, and admission is free.
- River O'Green Fest: The City of Tampa's official St. Patrick's Day celebration turns the Hillsborough River bright green. The free festival at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park features live music, Irish dance, food and a St. Patrick's Day parade.
- Cuban Sandwich Festival: Chefs from around the world compete for the title of best Cuban sandwich in Ybor City, the sandwich's birthplace. The free festival takes place at Centennial Park.
April
- Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival: This two-day music festival at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park celebrates Black culture with national jazz, R&B, soul and gospel artists, plus food, local vendors and family activities.
July
- Boom by the Bay: The City of Tampa's official Fourth of July celebration at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park features family activities, live entertainment and a fireworks finale. Admission is free.
December
- Winter Village: From late November through early January, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park becomes a holiday destination with outdoor ice skating, local shops, holiday lights and activities for all ages.
- Santa Fest and Tree Lighting: The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department kicks off the holiday season with a tree lighting and family activities at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.
- Gasparilla Bowl: This college football bowl game kicks off the holiday bowl season at Raymond James Stadium.
- Holiday Lighted Boat Parade: Decorated boats light up the Hillsborough River in Tampa's largest lighted boat parade. Watch for free from viewing spots along the Tampa Riverwalk.
- ReliaQuest Bowl: Teams from the SEC and Big Ten Conference meet at Raymond James Stadium in one of the nation's longest-running college bowl games.
