Child Safety Seat Program

3 officers holding carseats

The Tampa Police Department has certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST’s) who provide personalized instruction on how to properly secure a child in a car seat and properly install the car seat in a vehicle.

If you already have a car seat and would like assistance installing it, request an appointment.

If you don’t have a car seat or the car seat you have doesn’t fit the child, Tampa Police Department may be able to provide one for those with financial hardship. To qualify for a car seat, you must be a City of Tampa resident and demonstrate a financial need (examples: tax return showing within US Department of Health & Human Services poverty level guidelines and listing child as dependent, or, proof of enrollment with DCF Access Florida, with child listed at the same address on the benefits document). Car seats are only available while supplies last and may not be in stock at the time of request. Note: Only rear-facing/forward-facing convertible car seats will be provided (no booster seats or infant carriers will be available). To inquire about receiving a car seat, request an appointment
