Announcements

With the kickoff of a new year, Tampa Forward is excited to announce the first phase of the Code Update will be released in mid-February.

Let's first review what we've accomplished together so far:

  • During our project kickoff in April 2024, we garnered essential input from you about your key priorities and concerns.
  • Our current Land Development Code was fully assessed and evaluated to develop the LDC Assessment by Clarion Associates.
  • The first of three phases of the updated LDC is being finalized by Staff and Clarion.
  • The first phase will be released in mid-February 2026 and will include:
    • Zoning Districts
    • Use Regulations
    • Definitions

The release will be followed by a Public Meeting in the beginning of March.

About the Update

The City of Tampa is excited to launch Tampa Forward: Building Tomorrow Together, a two-year project to update the City’s Land Development Code (LDC).

The LDC is the set of regulations that govern how land can be used and developed in the City. Most of the LDC can be found in Chapter 27 of the City Code of Ordinances.

A key goal of this project is to create an improved LDC that is more user-friendly -- a document that:

  • Is significantly restructured so that it is more logical and easier to understand;
  • Includes more photos, diagrams, and other illustrations to visually demonstrate key code provisions;
  • Uses more precise language to reduce ambiguity and provide increased predictability;
  • Establishes enhanced development standards (such as tree planting and landscaping requirements) to improve the quality of development throughout the City.

Project Tasks and Timeline

The project tasks and timeline are listed in order below. The project launched in April 2024 and is anticipated to be completed in the second half of 2026.
