Tampa Department of Solid Waste Revises Service Collection Due to Tropical Storm Idalia

In preparation for Tropical Storm Idalia, the Department of Solid Waste services are being revised.
Upon post-storm evaluation, collection updates will be shared. The revised schedule is as follows:

 Residential collection will be affected.

  • Garbage collection will run through 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2023. Only blue, City of Tampa, garbage carts will be collected, all other residential collection will be suspended. If your garbage cart has yet to be collected by Tuesday at 10 a.m., please secure it in preparation for the storm. Beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2023, garbage collection will be suspended until further notice.
  •  Recycling collection is suspended until further notice. Please secure your green recycling carts in preparation for the storm.
  •  Yard waste collection is suspended until further notice. Please secure any yard waste items in preparation for the storm.

Commercial collection will be affected.

  • Service will run through 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29. Service will then be suspended until further notice.
  •  Downtown Tampa commercial collection also known as C2S will run through 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2023. Service will then be suspended until further notice.
  •  SWEEP and Special Pickup service will be affected. Residents under the current SWEEP collection should secure any items that still need to be collected. SWEEP will be canceled for the remainder of the week. An alternate make-up date will be announced post-storm. Special services will be suspended until further notice.
  •  McKay Bay Transfer Station and Scale House located at 114 S. 34th St., will close on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 10 a.m., and will be closed until further notice.

Customers are encouraged to download the Tampa Trash and Recycling app on the Apple and Google Play Stores to receive real-time updates on service schedules. Customers may contact the City of Tampa Utilities Call Center at (813) 274-8811 or visit the website at www.tampa.gov/solidwaste for any questions or concerns.
