Increased Traffic and Road Closure During SOF Week at Tampa Convention Center

Posted

Tampa Convention Center is proud to welcome back SOF Week, an annual convention dedicated to Special Operations Forces. The event is happening May 5 to May 8, 2025. It is expected to draw around 20,000 attendees to the convention center and other venues in Downtown Tampa.

Due to this event, Franklin Street will be closed from Channelside Drive to Harbour Island, including the Harbour Island Bridge, during the following dates and times:

  • Monday, May 5 to Thursday, May 8: 9am to 4:30pm
  • Friday, May 9: 8am to noon

Drivers should expect additional traffic around the convention center and other participating venues. Traffic volume is expected to increase starting Sunday, May 4 during event move-in. The busiest day is expected to be Tuesday, May 6.

Please use alternate routes and avoid the area if possible.

SOF Week 2025 will not include the capabilities demonstration that occurred on the Riverwalk in 2024, as this occurs every other year. However, people in the downtown area may still hear some noise around the convention center during this event due to military equipment.

This year, SOF Week will have an estimated economic impact of more than $17.5 million for the City of Tampa and the surrounding community, according to Visit Tampa Bay.
