Vik Bhide will step down as the City of Tampa’s Mobility Director with his last day in the office being June 6th, 2025 concluding nearly 12 years of dedicated public service. July 26th will be his last official day as a city employee.
Mr. Bhide played a major role in implementing the Mayor's MOVES Plan, aimed at enhancing safety and connectivity through upgraded school crosswalks, expanded sidewalks and bike lanes, led the West Riverwalk project currently in development, improved parking services and led efforts to upgrade more than $350 million in stormwater improvements.
Some of his recent accomplishments include the opening of MacDill 48 Park in South Tampa, built around a 10-acre stormwater pond for flood relief, doubling of the City's paving capacity, resulting in more than 230 miles of newly paved roads, and overseeing the completion of a series of Quick Build projects that delivered transformative roadway improvements in half the typical time and cost.
"It has truly been an honor to help move the City’s vision forward. I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished—from big projects that will transform how people move around our city, to the daily improvements that made life a little easier and safer for everyone who lives and works here," Bhide said. "I’ll always be cheering for our city, and for the talented team I’ve had the privilege to work with." he added.
“Vik has been a tremendous asset to the City of Tampa. He has consistently delivered on major projects that residents enjoy every day. He’s also been a leader in ensuring Tampa is more resilient to flooding by focusing on community impact. I appreciate all that he has done for the City of Tampa,” said Mayor Jane Castor.
Mr. Bhide said he is at a point in his life where he wants to take a career break to spend more time with his family and travel.
"I feel it's the right time for me to take a break, recharge, and reflect before moving on to my next professional chapter," Bhide said.
Transportation Services Director Brandon Campbell will serve as interim director while a thorough search for a new Mobility Director is conducted.
