Tampa Ranks #1 for Foreign Businesses

Tampa is celebrating yet another positive ranking — this time from the Financial Times.

According to the publication, which announced the latest FT-Nikkei Investing in America scores, Tampa is the best city in the United States for foreign businesses. The third annual report looks at how overseas companies are faring in today’s rapidly changing economy.

Methodology weighs factors that make a city attractive to foreign investors, like workforce and talent, openness (diversity), business environment (taxes, incentives, rent, and utility costs), and other foreign business needs. A new category was added this year: trade war resilience — which looks at how resilient cities are to tariffs and trade wars.

The City of Tampa’s Department of Economic Opportunity works closely with community partners like the Tampa Economic Development Council to attract new businesses to the region. In 2023, the city hired its first Small Business Navigator to serve as the main point of contact for entrepreneurs and small businesses, connecting them with valuable resources.

Currently, Tampa is home to approximately 22,000 businesses.
