Tampa River Center To Host National Learn To Row Day
The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, CANDO's Team Tampa Rowing, and The Tampa Athletic Club will host USRowing's seventh annual National Learn to Row Day on Saturday, June 7.
This is a great opportunity to come out and give rowing a try. The event is free and will introduce you to this ever-more-popular sport. Adults and children 10 and up can participate. And remember - you're never too old to learn to row.
Sign up is required, and available at www.tampa.gov/row25.
"Rowing is a wonderful sport for fitness and for friendship," said Michael Moseley, supervisor of the Parks and Recreation rowing programs. "It's a growing sport nationally, and booming in this market thanks to our access to water, and the Tampa River Center."
The event can accommodate 120 rowers, and is expected to be fully booked, so signing up quickly is encouraged. Four Learn To Row classes are scheduled that day, 7:00 to 9:00 A.M., 8:00 to 10:00 A.M., 9:00 to 11:00 A.M., and 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.
The River Center hosts this event as part of Parks and Recreation's year-round rowing programming for adults and youths.
Rowing summer camp has begun for children in grades 5-12, and there are weeks with availability in June and July. Visit TeamTampaRowing.com for information and registration links.
In addition, members of Team Tampa Rowing that recently won the club's first state title will be in attendance. Team Tampa Rowing went on to Regionals, where two groups - Women's U17 and Men's U16 - qualified for nationals, to be held June 12-15 in Sarasota.
