West Tampa Recreation Complex Gets Upgrades
Local volunteers from all over the area will be heading to West Tampa this weekend to give one of its beloved recreation centers a major facelift.
The Mission Continues, a nationwide non-profit that connects military veterans with volunteer opportunities in their region, has partnered with the City of Tampa’s Parks and Recreation Department to upgrade the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Complex on N Oregon Avenue this Sunday.
The team plans to refurbish bleachers, benches, and a picnic table, build sidewalk games, like GaGa Pit and a giant Jenga game, paint the interior of the facility’s indoor gym, build compost and trash bins, and much more.
Additionally, the group will be adding elements to the community garden located on the property, which was established by the City of Tampa’s Sustainability and Resilience Office through a USDA grant. The upgrades include a market garden stand and a new farm work table.
The event begins at 8:00 A.M. and will wrap up around 4:00 P.M.
