The City of Tampa is celebrating the successful graduation of its Green Team, a dedicated group of nine individuals who have completed more than 1,700 service hours each during the 2024-2025 program year.

A graduation ceremony was held just after noon on Thursday, July 31, at the Seminole Garden Center.

Over the course of the last year, Green Team members planted 375 trees and more than 9,400 plants, removed more than 49,000 pounds of litter and debris from city parks and waterways, and educated more than 4,500 residents and youth about environmental stewardship.

“Our Green Team tackled some of the hardest, dirtiest work out there — planting trees, cleaning up trash, and making Tampa a cleaner, greener place for everyone to enjoy. Their efforts are exactly what we need to strengthen our city’s ecosystem, improve air and water quality long term, and help us prepare for any environmental challenges ahead,” said Mayor Jane Castor.

The Green Team members, many of whom have earned certifications such as the Urban Agriculture Specialist Certification, have contributed to a wide range of city initiatives including hurricane response in 2024.
