Tampa Police Officer Arrested in Off-Duty Incident

TAMPA, FL. (November 28, 2025) - A Tampa Police officer has been placed on administrative leave following an arrest.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office charged Steven Barber with Domestic Battery by Strangulation, Domestic Violence Battery, and False Imprisonment following an off-duty incident on November 27th, 2025, involving an adult female victim known to him.

On November 28th, 2025, Barber was arrested by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, following his release from a local facility. He will be transferred to Orient Road Jail.

“Domestic violence is a serious crime, and no one is above the law,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “Our thoughts are with the victim of this incident. The actions alleged in this case do not reflect the values of our department and those who make the choice to take such actions will be held accountable.”

Barber has been employed with TPD since September 2007. He has been on military deployment since March of this year and was due to return to TPD next month.

He is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

No situation should escalate to violence; the Tampa Police Department has resources available both internally and externally to assist those in need.
