Tampa Convention Center is expanding its accessibility services with the launch of new Distract Paks and Emergency Communication Cards, including a Spanish-language version, as part of a broader initiative to better serve guests with sensory and communication needs.
The new resources are designed to support individuals who may feel overwhelmed in busy event environments or who require assistance communicating during emergencies. The tools are now available upon request throughout the facility.
These items were recently used during the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA) Conference, where staff provided calming sensory tools to assist a child who needed a brief break from a crowded event setting.
The initiative is part of an ongoing accessibility effort that includes specialized training for City of Tampa employees and event partners on serving guests with autism and sensory sensitivities, in partnership with USF’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD).
