Tampa Police Arrest Former Teacher for Inappropriate Conduct with Student

TAMPA, FL. (SEPTEMBER 24, 2026) - - Tampa Police arrested 43-year-old Marvin Jones (black male, 1/6/1983), a former Jefferson High School teacher, for inappropriate conduct with a student.

On September 11, 2026, the Tampa Police School Resource Officer assigned to Jefferson High School was notified of a teacher engaged in inappropriate communication and conduct with a 17-year-old student. 

Detectives with the Special Victims Unit were notified and responded to the school, immediately launching an investigation. Evidence and statements gathered during the investigation revealed that Jones engaged in inappropriate contact with the victim using text messaging and social media apps beginning in September 2025. The inappropriate behavior escalated to repeated, unlawful sexual activity with the victim.

"I want every family to know that from the minute we were informed of this concern, our investigation was methodical and did not stop until this suspect was in custody," said Acting Chief Brett Owen. "We trust teachers with our kids every day, and when someone breaks that trust, they will face justice."

On September 24, 2026, Jones was arrested and charged with Lewd or Lascivious Touching of a Minor (Victim 16-17; Defendant 24 or Older), and Unlawful Sexual Activity with a Minor (3 counts). He was transported to Orient Road Jail.
