TAMPA, FL. (NOVEMBER 5, 2026) - - The Tampa Police Athletic League (PAL) is officially opening registration today for its new NFL FLAG Football program, bringing one of the fastest-growing youth sports in the nation directly to Tampa’s young athletes.
NFL FLAG, the official flag football program of the NFL, is a non-contact, inclusive league designed to help boys and girls build fundamental football skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork in a positive environment. Originally launched as part of the NFL’s global health and wellness initiative to make football accessible to all children, NFL FLAG has grown into a nationwide movement serving over 830,000 youth athletes. Now, Tampa PAL is partnering with NFL FLAG to deliver that same high-energy, structured opportunity to Tampa neighborhoods.
"At Tampa PAL, our focus is always on creating positive connections and bringing new opportunities that reflect the interests of Tampa's youth," said Acting Chief Brett Owen. "We have seen the growth and excitement for flag football both locally and across the nation. We are grateful that our partnership with NFL FLAG will help us make this program a reality for young athletes in Tampa."
While overall youth sports participation nationwide has seen a decline over the past decade, flag football has surged, increasing by 38 percent among kids ages 6 to 12. Tampa PAL’s new league offers local youth an engaging environment to stay active, build lasting friendships, and learn the game while being mentored by Tampa Police Officers and PAL Coaches.
