New Bikes Being Delivered to Tampa Kids

Through onbikes and Caroling with Castor

For the fourth year in a row, Mayor Jane Castor and community partners will make surprise deliveries of brand new bikes to deserving kids throughout the City of Tampa, in collaboration with onbikes, powered by TECO, and supported by Tampa General Hospital.

Caroling and bike deliveries will be done from the onbikes 50-foot Gasparilla parade float. The float will be followed by a series of Chadwell Supply trucks filled with bicycles for each and every kid.

Mayor Jane Castor personally hands out the bikes to kids each year at a series of different Tampa Parks and Recreation Centers.

“This is what I like to call the Best Day Ever,” Mayor Jane Castor said. “Seeing the looks on their faces when we pull up in the float is just incredible. Every kid deserves a bike and it is so heartwarming seeing some of these kids get their first bike ever.”

onbikes will join Mayor Jane Castor and multiple recreation facilities delivering bikes and caroling as they go.

Providing bikes to kids leads to new opportunities for health, wellness, and fun. A bike can create a new way for a child to explore their community or transportation for teens who need to get to school or work. onbikes is dedicated to providing a new bike to each and every one.

“We are so excited to partner with the City of Tampa, keeping this great event going for the fourth year,"  said onbikes Executive Director Anne Gold. “Something so small as a bike can make a very real difference. A bike is more than just a bike. A bike means possibility. Because on bikes, kids go places.”

The Bike Give-Away Events will take place at three different City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Centers. Media Availability will be at the first location, however, media members are free to follow to the other locations for additional video and photos.

About onbikes

onbikes is a Tampa based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was formed in 2011 when a group of friends organized a community bike ride during the winter holiday season to raise funds so at-risk kids could receive their very first bike. It was an incredible success, and it was then that onbikes was born. At onbikes we are simply doing our part in restoring the self-confidence, health, and overall well-being of at-risk kids in our community.
