The City of Tampa Planning Department will host an online webinar on November 24th at 7pm to begin the planning efforts of a new Sea Level Rise Regulatory Assessment.
The City of Tampa was recently awarded a $75,000 grant from The Florida Resilient Coastlines Program (FRCP) to study the impacts of sea-level rise on the community and to identify key recommendations for resilience planning. With the grant, the City Planning Department will complete an analysis of current land use, zoning, and building regulations and recommend strategies to prepare for projected sea-level rise impacts.
The first of three community meetings will take place on November 24, 2020 at 7pm. At this meeting, residents will learn about the project’s goals and objectives, the future sea-level rise projections, and the approach that will be undertaken to identify and mitigate the risks to sea-level rise in the Tampa Bay community.
“As sea-level rise continues to occur worldwide, this grant will allow us to analyze its impact specifically on our community here in Tampa. Resilience planning now will ensure we maximize our current resources to properly prepare for the future,” said Director of Planning Randy Goers. “This assessment is just one of the ways that Mayor Jane Castor and our Planning team is committed to Transforming Tampa’s Tomorrow for a stronger and more resilient city.”
The City of Tampa is partnering with the Florida Center for Community Design and Research at USF, the Hillsborough County Planning Commission, and other agencies to complete the project.
