The City of Tampa is excited to welcome Javier Marin as its new Director of Economic Opportunity.

Serving within the Development and Economic Opportunity portfolio, led by Administrator Nicole Travis, the Director of Economic Opportunity is responsible for ensuring all stakeholders benefit from projects initiated by, or in partnership with the City of Tampa. The department includes small business navigation and small business resources. Additionally, it acts as the city's liaison to economic development, tourism, Foreign Trade Zone and Trade & Protocol.

"Javier's extensive experience in business growth, trade, finance, and non-profits make him a great fit for this unique role which works closely with so many of our city departments and our valuable external partners," said Mayor Jane Castor. "Tampa would not be successful without a vibrant and robust business environment and our department of Economic Opportunity plays an important part in ensuring all stakeholders, including residents, are supported."

Prior to joining the City of Tampa, Javier was Vice President of Business Development for the Central Florida Development Council, where he led initiatives to attract foreign direct investment, international trade, and supported the expansion and retention of existing companies. Prior to this, he was an Assistant Director with the Florida Small Business Development Center at the University of South Florida. Javier holds an MBA in International Business from Webber International University and a BAS in Public Administration from Polk State College. Javier is from Colombia and is fluent in Spanish and Swedish.
