With the 2020 presidential election day just over a month away, Mayor Jane Castor is urging the Tampa community to register to vote on National Voter Registration Day.
The non-partisan holiday has been observed on the fourth Tuesday of September since 2012 and has since gained endorsements from the Nationals Association of Secretaries (NASS), the National Associate of State Election Directors (NASED), the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), and the National Association of Election Officials.
“This past year has shown the strength and solidarity of Tampa’s voice when we all join together. The passion that lives within our community needs to be heard come election day,” says Mayor Jane Castor. “Join me in getting involved on this National Voter Registration Day by registering to vote and encouraging your friends and family to do the same. Every voice matters, and every vote counts!”
Since 2012, over 3 million registrations across all 50 states have occurred on the holiday, 1.3 million of which were in 2018 in 2019 alone. The City of Tampa is hoping to continue the trend of high involvement this year before the registration deadline on October 5th.
