On Friday, November 20, the Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Council will present 260 copies of Path to the Stars: My Journey from Girl Scout to Rocket Scientist to Hillsborough County School District officials.  The event will occur at 10 am at Bailey Elementary School, 4630 Gallagher Road, Dover. Written by Sylvia Acevedo, former NASA scientist and currently the CEO of the Girl Scouts of America, the book will be used by 5th and 6th-grade students at various schools participating in the Hispanic Heroes Book Club.  Funds to purchase the books were donated by long-time Brandon residents, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Garcia.  The Council conceived the Hispanic Heroes theme and plans to follow up next semester with a student writing contest based on their book club experience. Ms. Acevedo will be the keynote speaker of the Council’s annual Latinos Unidos Luncheon on May 5, 2021.
