The Tampa Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on the 1500 block of E 27th Ave.
At approximately 9 AM on Monday, October 17, 2022, ShotSpotter detected the sound of multiple gunshots near Orange Grove Middle School, located at 3415 N 16th St in Tampa. While in route to the scene, a call was received regarding a shooting at a home on the 1500 block of E 27th St, across from the school. Officers came in contact with an adult male victim who said a known suspect drove by his home firing several shots at the house. The victim said he returned fire in self-defense.
No one was injured and no homes were struck by the gunfire, however, one round struck an exterior door at Orange Grove Middle. The door, which was locked, leads to a stairwell that is not in operation. The space is used for storage. No children or classes are in the area, and no threat was posed to the school.
No arrests have been made at this time. An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
