Tampa’s Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management will fully open its new McKay Bay Transfer Station on Monday, April 18, 2022.

The new, 53,000 square-foot McKay Bay Transfer Station supplements the existing facility to accommodate the increased waste generated by Tampa’s development and growth.

The new complex includes:

  • Citizen's Drop-Off Area, with 20 dedicated parking bays designed to allow simultaneous disposal, which will improve overall service delivery time. Attendant-controlled access and staff to guide customers through the disposal process.
  • 30,000 square foot tipping floor, which doubles the existing site's storage capacity and makes visits for large vehicles much shorter.
  • 5,600 square foot employee building, complete with offices, conference room, a new breakroom, and employee restrooms.

"We know that this new Transfer Station will help provide an even higher level of customer service to our residents by cutting wait times and making the whole disposal process more efficient," said Mayor Jane Castor. "Additionally, customers with smaller vehicles will no longer drop off waste alongside larger vehicles, making the disposal process even safer."

Larry Washington, Director of the Dept. of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management for the City of Tampa said, "Commercial haulers will now be able to use the new tunnel scales on-site, meaning they no longer need to wait in line at the Scale House, shortening the lines, and therefore allowing haulers to complete their trips in less time."

The new Transfer Station supports Mayor Castors T3 initiative for Strengthening Community-Centric Services and provides quality basic services that are connected to the community that it serves.
