Water Department Urges Continued Conservation Following Water Shortage Declaration
As the Southwest Florida Water Management District declares a Modified Phase II Water Shortage, the Tampa Water Department is urging residents to continue doing their part to protect our vital water resources by complying with the City’s mandatory once-a-week watering restrictions.
The City of Tampa has remained under once-a-week watering restrictions since December 1, 2023, following the District’s previous water shortage declaration. Recognizing the importance of long-term conservation, the Tampa City Council approved to make these restrictions year-round in August 2024. Over the past two years, this proactive approach has resulted in an estimated 4 billion gallons of water saved compared to twice-a-week watering.
Tampa Water Department customers may only water their lawns and landscapes on their designated watering day and not between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.Residents can check their watering day by visiting tampa.gov/WaterRestrictions.
Outdoor watering can account for more than 50% of a home’s monthly water use. Following these restrictions is essential for reducing demand and safeguarding local water supplies.
