TAMPA, FL (July 7, 2026) - The Tampa Police Department with the assistance of the U.S. Marshalls Fugitive Task Force arrested 30-year-old Roosevelt Harmon (DOB: 08/06/1995) in connection with the deadly shooting of Kevondre Thomas last month.
"From the moment this investigation began, detectives were committed to justice for the Thomas family," said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. "While no arrest can remove the pain and loss this family has endured, we hope this brings them a small amount of comfort. I want to commend the detectives for their relentless efforts to hold those responsible for this tragedy accountable."
On June 21, 2026, officers were near West Main St and North Albany Ave dispersing a large gathering when they heard shots fired. Officers ran toward the gunfire, immediately locating an adult male in critical condition, and began rendering aid. The victim, 29-year-old Kevondre Thomas (black male, 07/16/1996), was taken to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
Shortly after the shooting, investigators located surveillance video from a nearby business that appeared to show Harmon and the victim arguing before the shooting with bystanders attempting to break the two up. Investigators say at some point during the verbal argument, Harmon pulled out a gun and shot Thomas who did not have a weapon.
A witness also identified Harmon as the shooter.
On July 7th, 2026, Harmon was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshalls Fugitive Task Force in Palm Beach County.
Harmon is charged with Murder in the First-Degree Premeditated Firearm and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
