City of Tampa to Rally Behind Rays Ahead of Postseason Run
The City of Tampa is showing its support for the Tampa Bay Rays as the team heads into the postseason following one of the best regular seasons in franchise history.
Mayor Jane Castor, City leaders and staff, and former Rays player and Tampa Bay native Brett Phillips will gather outside Old City Hall on Tuesday, September 29, at 12:30 pm as the City drops a Rays banner from the Tampa Municipal Office Building and raises a Rays flag over Old City Hall.
Media and members of the community are invited to attend and help Tampa Bay rally behind the Rays as they begin their postseason run.
The Rays finished the regular season with a 98-64 record, winning the American League East Division Championship and securing the American League’s top postseason seed. The team will have the opening round off before beginning postseason play on Saturday, October 3, at Tropicana Field against the winner of the New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox series.
"We are incredibly proud of the Rays and everything they have accomplished this season, and we want them to know that Tampa and the entire Tampa Bay community are behind them," said Mayor Jane Castor. "It is especially exciting to cheer on a team that will soon call the City of Tampa home once construction of their new ballpark is complete. We’re proud to support our Rays, and we can’t wait to see what they do in October."
