Tampa Updates its Land Development Code

Announcements:

June 2026:

Thank you for participating in our community meetings

Thank you for attending one of our Tampa Forward Land Development Code Update community meetings this June. We appreciate you taking the time to learn about the project, ask questions, and share your thoughts on how Tampa should grow and develop in the years ahead.

Community feedback is a critical part of this process, and we encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the meeting feedback survey. Your input will help City staff and project consultants better understand community priorities as work continues on the update.

SHARE YOUR FEEDBACK ON THE INFORMATION THAT WAS PRESENTED

The Land Development Code serves as the rulebook that guides how land is used and developed throughout Tampa. This multi-year effort aims to create a code that is easier to understand, more user-friendly, and better aligned with the needs of our growing community.

What is a Land Development Code?

About the Update

The City of Tampa is excited to launch Tampa Forward: Building Tomorrow Together, a two-year project to update the City’s Land Development Code (LDC).

The LDC is the set of regulations that govern how land can be used and developed in the City. Most of the LDC can be found in Chapter 27 of the City Code of Ordinances.

A key goal of this project is to create an improved LDC that is more user-friendly -- a document that:

  • Is significantly restructured so that it is more logical and easier to understand;
  • Includes more photos, diagrams, and other illustrations to visually demonstrate key code provisions;
  • Uses more precise language to reduce ambiguity and provide increased predictability;
  • Establishes enhanced development standards (such as tree planting and landscaping requirements) to improve the quality of development throughout the City.
