City Government 101 Public Forum

The City of Tampa is inviting residents to take a closer look at how their local government works with an upcoming "City Government 101" public forum — an informative, interactive session designed to break down the structure and operations of city government.

The free event will take place Saturday, April 25, from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the City Center at Hanna Avenue, located at 2555 E Hanna Avenue.

This forum is open to all residents, with a special focus on individuals interested in running for public office, including prospective candidates for mayor or city council.

Attendees will hear directly from senior City of Tampa officials representing a wide range of departments and services. Participants will gain insight into how decisions are made, how services are delivered, and how city resources are managed — with opportunities to ask questions and engage in meaningful discussion.

"Much like our regular Mayor’s Neighborhood University sessions, this forum is about empowering our residents with knowledge," said Mayor Jane Castor. "Whether you’re thinking about running for office or simply want to better understand how your city operates, we want you to feel informed and connected to the work we’re doing every day to serve Tampa."

Presentations and discussions will cover key areas of city government, including:

  • How Tampa City government is structured

  • Budget development and financial management

  • Public Safety

  • Managing the City’s Workforce

  • Turning an idea into government action

  • Procurement and contracting processes

  • Infrastructure and service delivery

The event is designed to provide a clear, accessible overview of city operations while encouraging civic engagement and participation.

Registration is encouraged and can be completed here. Light refreshments will be provided.
