The Mayor's Neighborhood University provides community members several exciting opportunities to learn about and interact with their City government. Sit at the head of the class for a "Saturday Session" to earn certifications, participate in insightful workshops, or get hands-on with special equipment. Experience a new class and meet neighbors from across the city each month. Classes take place at the City's Community Engagement Hub, located inside the City Center at Hanna Avenue (2555 East Hanna Avenue).

Trees play a powerful role in keeping Tampa cool, healthy, and resilient—but many residents have questions about planting, maintenance, permitting, and storm impacts.

Join us for "Rooted in Tampa", an interactive community conversation designed to demystify the City’s tree programs and address common concerns. From myth-busting discussions to practical maintenance guidance, you’ll hear directly from City experts and learn how programs like Plant Your Heart Out and Treemendous Tampa support both private and public plantings.

9 a.m. Introduction The importance of Tampa’s award-winning urban tree canopy.

9:10 a.m. State of the Urban Canopy Presentation on the public’s view of trees and canopy coverage post-2024 hurricane season.

9:30 a.m. Trees on Public Property Presentation on planting programs and maintenance completed on public lands, such as city parks and the right-of-way. 

10 a.m. Trees on Private Property Presentation on private property planting programs, permitting, and tree trust funds. 

10:40 a.m. Creating a Resilient Canopy for the Future
Presentation on best practices for selecting, planting, and maintaining trees to increase resilience to storms.

11 a.m. Myth Busters: Tampa Trees Edition Panel featuring a lightning round of facts or myths with a group of certified arborists.

11 a.m. Lunch Break Free lunch provided to participants

12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Open House: Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, learn more details about various programs, and participate in interactive demonstrations.
