Orlando Gudes is the Tampa City Council Member representing District 5. He was sworn into office on May 1, 2019.

A Tampa Native, Orlando Gudes has proven to be a resident committed to helping improve the lives of others in his professional and personal journey. Orlando is dedicated to his community having served as an officer with the Tampa Police Department for over 26 years.  He is the Director of Operations at Gudes Funeral Home, a family-owned business.

Orlando attended Bethune-Cookman University, Saint Leo University, and National Louis University. He has an Associate of Arts Degree, Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Behavioral Science, and a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management Administration.

While Orlando worked as a school resource officer he created the first Youth Crime Watch program at Van Buren Junior High School. He instituted an accreditation program for all Hillsborough County Public Schools with the National Office of Youth Crime Watch of America. As a dedicated public servant with the Tampa Police Department for 26 years, he has seen the heartache of families affected by crime, mental illness, and loss from every socioeconomic background and race in every neighborhood across the city. He has been an advocate against bureaucracy for the sake of fellow officers and the residents in the city.

Orlando Gudes has served on the Charter Review Board, the East Tampa Community Revitalization Partnership CAC, Hillsborough County Human Relations Board, Neighborhood Accountability Board, and the NFL YET Center Board as well as many others. He also has active memberships in a host of organizations, including Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Florida Democratic Black Caucus (State Sgt. at Arms), Grand Krewe De Libertalia, Pride of West Tampa Masonic Lodge #1, and the Hillsborough County Branch NAACP. He was inducted into the American Youth Football Hall of Fame. Orlando was honored as the National Youth Crime Watch of America Officer of the Year and received the Legacy Fellowship of Churches and Ministries Community Service Award.

In addition to being a member of the Tampa City Council, he will be serving as the Chairman of the Community Redevelopment Area, Chairman of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Committee, and a representative of the Affordable Housing Advisory Board, Tampa Bay Sports Authority, and the Public Safety Coordinating Council

He has two daughters and three grandchildren.
