About Transportation

Services:

  • Planning, development, project management and implementation of the City’s transportation capital improvement program, including: complete streets; intersection operational improvements; roadway widening; roadway safety; traffic calming and enhancements projects; new sidewalk construction; bridge and seawall rehabilitation; and streetcar capital maintenance and improvements projects. 
  • Conducting speed, traffic circulation, and residential parking studies.
  • Performing crash data analyses, and evaluations for sight obstructions, clear zone and right-of-way encroachments.
  • Developing school zone safety projects and signing and pavement marking projects.
  • Planning, engineering, drafting, mapping, surveying and coordination support to the Transportation and Stormwater Operations Division for the execution of its pavement management, roadway resurfacing, signing and pavement marking, signalization, lighting and sidewalks maintenance programs.
  • Coordination with the Hillsborough County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) in development of the Comprehensive Plan, Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP). 
  • Coordination with other local and regional transportation agencies such as Hillsborough County Public Works Department, the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART), the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) and the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority (TBARTA), to develop projects and initiatives that improve and enhance the safety and mobility of our City's and region’s transportation facilities.
  • Assist and coordinate with the City’s Planning and Development Division on traffic analyses, access management, plat reviews and construction plans reviews for private developments, as well as with reviews of right-of-way permit applications, encroachments, right-of-way vacating requests, and design exceptions.
  • Coordination with other City departments on maintenance and capital improvement projects within the right-of-way.
  • Providing survey services to various City departments.
  • Maintaining drawing archives for various City departments.
  • Planning and scheduling preventive and corrective maintenance of assets that fall within the public right of way including:
    • Resurfacing and pothole patching
    • Pavement markings
    • Traffic signal operations, maintenance and repair
    • Street lighting
    • Sidewalk installation and repair
    • Bridge operations
    • seawall maintenance
    • Traffic sign maintenance, fabrication and installations
  • Administer and monitor all service contracts
  • Oversee all memorandums of agreement for maintenance of assets owned by others
  • Oversee both the in-house and contractual paving programs
