The Charter Review Advisory Commission
The Charter Review Advisory Commission a board of appointed citizens who will review Tampa's City Charter and recommend changes to improve how the city government operates. Any recommended changes must be placed on the ballot by ordinance and approved by Tampa voters before they can take effect.
The City Charter serves as Tampa's constitution. It is the foundational legal document that establishes how the city government is organized and how it functions. The charter defines the powers and duties of the Mayor and City Council, how elections are conducted, and how city departments are structured. It also outlines the rights and responsibilities of city officials and sets rules for city finances and operations. Because the charter shapes nearly every aspect of local government, the City Charter requires review every eight years to ensure it continues to meet the needs of Tampa residents.
