Tampa Theatre

Statement

This sculpture, created for Herman Massey Park, takes inspiration from the iconic Tampa Theatre (1926), reimagining its silhouette rather than replicating its form. It explores the theatre’s layered history—not just human activity, but the effects of time, weather, and light—through embedded graphics and forms evoking a façade, marquee, and unspooling film reel. Illuminated with LED strips, the piece plays with light and shadow to suggest movement and transformation. Rather than a static monument, the work becomes a living symbol of continuity and change, inviting viewers to see Tampa’s architectural legacy through a new lens.
