No, Tampa Fire Rescue does not hire single-certification paramedics or EMTs. Applicants must possess both a valid Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance and an EMT or Paramedic certification to be eligible for employment. Additionally, all new hires are required to obtain a State of Florida Paramedic Certification within three years of employment. 

This dual-certification requirement ensures that all personnel are equipped to perform both firefighting and emergency medical services, aligning with the department's comprehensive approach to public safety.

Tampa Fire Rescue does not accept lateral transfers. All candidates, including those with previous firefighter or paramedic experience from other agencies, are required to start as a recruit and go through the full hiring and training process. 

This ensures that all new hires are thoroughly trained in Tampa Fire Rescue’s specific procedures, protocols, and safety standards.

Before applying, out-of-state firefighters must show they have completed the Florida Firefighter Equivalency Process for Out-of-State Firefighters, which is managed by the Florida Division of State Fire Marshal.
