Disposal Eligibility and Requirements: 

City of Tampa residents with active Residential Solid Waste accounts are eligible to dispose of select items at no additional charge. 

You must bring:

  • Driver's license or other government issued identification
  • Proof of active City of Tampa Solid Waste account (utility bill)

Both documents must show the same name. The waste you are must come from the address on your solid waste account.

Closed toed shoes are required while at the facility. Dump trailer operators must have a hard hat. 

*Please note that residential accounts are properties with four or fewer housing units, as defined by Florida law. 

If you live outside Tampa city limits: Visit the Hillsborough County website for disposal options.

Accepted Items (Free Disposal)

These items are free to dispose of for City of Tampa residents with an active Residential Solid Waste account. 

  • Appliances (two appliances per visit) 
  • Barbecue grills (remove propane tanks) 
  • Furniture 
  • Mattresses
  • Yard waste (in paper bags, or bundled with jute twine only - no plastic bags)

Accepted Items (Paid Disposal) 

These items can be disposed of for a fee, see below for fee amounts. Credit card payments only. 

  • Commercial waste
  • Items delivered in commercial vehicles
  • Construction debris (tile, plywood, roofing, fencing, drywall, plaster)
  • Household garbage
  • Mixed loads (example: furniture mixed with construction debris)
  • Large car parts
  • Carpet
  • Tires (see below for alternative tire disposal sites)

Unaccepted Items:

These items are never accepted at the McKay Bay Waste Management Resource Facility and could pose a threat to workers, our facility, and the environment. 

  • Radioactive, biological, or infectious waste
  • Wet drywall mud
  • Liquid waste
  • Bricks
  • Rocks
  • Cinder blocks
  • Dirt
  • Commercial or household hazardous waste:*
    • Automotive products (Fuel oil, gasoline, diesel, motor oil, etc.)
    • Lead-acid batteries (Car, boat, power tools, etc.)
    • Rechargeable batteries (Power tools, lithium ion, rechargeable devices, etc.)
    • Chemicals (adhesives, aerosols, cleaners, etc.)
    • Lawn and garden chemicals (fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, poisons, etc.)
    • Paint products
    • Propane and helium tanks 
    • Fluorescent bulbs
    • Explosives, flares, and ammunition 
  • Electronics*

*For no additional charge, City of Tampa residents can dispose of household hazardous waste and electronics at select Hillsborough County facilities. To learn more, visit tampa.gov/HHW. Commercial hazardous or electronic waste is not accepted.
