  • Residential customers with active solid waste accounts who reside in single-family homes and multi-unit properties (four units or less) get one prescheduled S.W.E.E.P. collection every year, at no additional cost. 
  • If your S.W.E.E.P. date has passed or you need items picked up sooner, you can call our customer service team at (813)-274-8811 or visit Tampa Connect to schedule a special-pick up for $18.12 per cubic yard (a cubic yard is about the size of an oven).
  • Residents with active solid waste accounts can also use the McKay Bay Scale House to dispose of large items like yard waste, furniture, mattresses, and appliances for free. Visit tampa.gov/scalehouse to learn more. 

* S.W.E.E.P. collections are not provided in New Tampa as New Tampa residents are serviced by Hillsborough County Solid Waste. New Tampa residents are encouraged to contact Hillsborough County Solid Waste at (813)-272-5680 or visit hcfl.gov/Trash for more information about their solid waste services and how to properly dispose of bulky waste.

SWEEP Set Out Requirements:

  • Items must be placed together in one pile, curbside, and on the right of way in front of your residence, no later than 8 p.m. on your Sunday S.W.E.E.P. clean-up date. S.W.E.E.P. crews will not return later in the week to areas that have already been cleared. The earliest that items may be placed curbside is five (5) days prior to your Sunday S.W.E.E.P. clean-up date. 
  • Items placed in front of vacant homes or lots will be treated as illegal dumping and will be investigated by Code Enforcement for resolution.
  • To prevent injury and damage, avoid placing items under low hanging tree limbs, on or near electrical/phone lines, water meters, and utility boxes. For safety reasons, S.W.E.E.P. items blocked by vehicles or other items will not be collected.
  • Flat glass items, such as mirrors, window glass, or table top panes, must be duct taped or wrapped to prevent breakage.
  • S.W.E.E.P. piles should not exceed 10 cubic yards (1 cubic yard = the size of 1 oven). If your pile is larger than 10 cubic yards, you may incur additional disposal fees.  
  • Please do not approach the truck at any time, especially when employee is operating the truck.

  • Mattresses
  • Barbecue Grills
  • Toilets
  • Carpet
  • Flat Glass (duct taped or wrapped)
  • Passenger Tires (limited to 4 tires)
  • Railroad Ties (cut down to 4 feet)
  • Tree limbs and Stumps

PLEASE NOTE: The City of Tampa reserves the right to refuse items as necessary.

ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED:

  • Building Materials (sheds, fences, tile, pipe, wood/plywood, brick, concrete blocks, rocks, doors, roofing material, windows, drywall)
  • Electronics*
  • Household Hazardous Waste* (paints, solvents, oil or fuels)
  • Pressurized Gas Cylinders
  • Explosives/Ammunition
  • Metal Drums
  • Boats
  • Yard Waste (grass clipping, leaves and small limbs)

*For no additional charge, Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics can be taken to select Hillsborough County facilities.
