Staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by highly trained fire and medical dispatchers, the division manages a wide range of calls for service, from life-threatening medical emergencies and structure fires to hazardous materials incidents and other urgent situations.

Every call is carefully assessed to ensure the appropriate resources are dispatched quickly and efficiently. Communications personnel provide responding crews with real-time information and updates, helping firefighters and paramedics make informed decisions before they even arrive on scene.

Through constant coordination, vigilance, and professionalism, the Communications Division plays a vital role in ensuring Tampa Fire Rescue delivers timely, effective emergency response to residents and visitors across the city.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Ability to type at least 35 words per minute
  • Strong multitasking and decision-making skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
  • Successful completion of background check, drug screening, and psychological evaluation
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays

This critical role serves as the first point of contact for emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinating fire and EMS response to protect lives and property throughout the City of Tampa.
